This morning, the university held a grand graduation ceremony. All of you successfully received your master’s degrees and put on your beautiful master’s gowns. Across the campus, students in bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral gowns form the most beautiful sight at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE).

接下来，你们将依次完成各项毕业手续。部分同学对未知的职业生涯满怀憧憬，有同学选择攻读博士，有少许同学正在积极求职，我对你们的优秀和卓越倍感自信。

In the coming days, you will complete all kinds of graduation procedures. Some of you are excited and hopeful about the professional careers you are about to begin. Some of you have chosen to continue your studies and pursue doctorates. A few of you are still actively looking for jobs, and I have complete confidence in your excellence.

我校硕士修读学制为两年，这在你们学习生涯中显得特别短暂。基于现阶段就业和升学的激烈竞争环境，大家静心学习的时间可能不足一年。实习、备考、求职，以及可能最不受待见却不得不完成的学位论文，是过去一年的主要内容，作为老师，我可以充分理解。现在，你们已通过论文答辩，拿到学位，找到工作，或考上博士，崭新征程即将开启。

Our Master’s study lasts only two years. Two years of Master’s study is a very brief period in your academic life. In the current environment of intense competition for employment and further study, the time you could truly settle down to study may have been less than one year. Internships, exam preparation, job hunting, and the degree thesis that may not have been especially welcomed, but had to be written, formed the main content of your life over the past year. As your teacher, I fully understand. Now, you have passed your thesis defenses, obtained your degrees, found jobs, or been admitted to doctoral programs, and you are about to begin a new journey.

今天上午的毕业典礼上，校友刘蔓女士、教师代表魏玲教授、赵忠秀校长表达了精彩的毕业寄语，英雄所见略同。他们对当前面临的世界百年未有之大变局、科技革命、地缘政治博弈和中华民族伟大复兴等时代重要议题作了深刻分析。

At this morning’s graduation ceremony, alumna Liu Man, faculty representative Professor Wei Ling, and President Zhao Zhongxiu all offered excellent graduation messages. Great minds think alike: they made in-depth analyses of the profound global changes unseen in a century, the technological revolution, intense geopolitical competition, and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation that we now face.

他们一致强调，要有广阔的全球视野，要洞察时代特征和发展大势，要终身学习，适应科技革命带来的不确定性。要善于选择、敢于选择、敢于行动；要有强大的韧性，领悟“潮起潮落终有时，花落花开又一春”。

And they all emphasized the need for a broad global vision, insight into the characteristics of the times and the overall direction of development, lifelong learning, and adaptation to the uncertainties brought by technological revolution. In the face of uncertainty, they urged everyone to be good at making choices, to be brave in making choices, to act with courage, and to have strong resilience, knowing that tides rise and fall in due course, and flowers fall and bloom again with spring.

校友刘蔓女士特别强调，要做一个有爱心的青年领袖。作为老师，我也是一个特殊的家长，对于即将扬帆起航的同学们，我想再叮嘱几句。

Alumna Liu Man also placed particular emphasis on the importance of becoming compassionate young leaders. As a teacher, and also as a parent figure to you, I would like to say a few more words to you as you are about to set sail.

第一个关键词是“角色转变”。对于大部分即将就业的同学，将面临一个全新角色。在学校，大家听课、交作业、准备考试，大部分时间、内容都是相对被动地推进，且多为个人自主完成。

The first key word is role transition. For most of you who will enter employment, you will face an entirely new role. At school, you attended classes, submitted assignments, and prepared for exams. For most of the time, you were in a relatively passive position, and most activities could be completed by one person alone.

进入职场后，大部分时间、工作内容需要我们担任主动角色。主动判断面临的环境、谋划工作进度、推陈出新；大部分工作需与他人沟通、协作完成。甚至，很快会有部分工作需要你们全权负责组织实施。

Once you enter the workplace, the situation will be different. Most of the time, in most tasks, you will need to take an active role: actively assess the environment you are in, actively plan, advance, and innovate in your work, and communicate, coordinate, and cooperate with others to complete most tasks. Very soon, some work may even require you to take full responsibility for organizing and implementing it.

你们沟通协调的人包括单位领导，年长或年轻的同事，以及外部单位的各层级人员。大家需尽快适应生活内容和角色的巨大转换，提升核心本领。角色转换的关键是“主动”，要主动承担、主动思考、主动沟通、主动创新。

Among the people you need to coordinate and communicate with are leaders in your organization, senior colleagues, and of course, in the future, younger colleagues, as well as people at different levels in external organizations. You need to adapt as quickly as possible to this major change in daily life and professional role, and improve your core abilities. The key to role transition is being proactive: be proactive in assuming responsibility, thinking, communicating, and innovating.

第二个关键词是“奉献”，其近义词为“贡献”或“服务”。到了新单位，首先想到的应是“我能给单位带来什么，创造什么”。如果发现单位遇到困境，你能做什么改变它？对同事亦是如此，我们的价值在哪里？这些观点可能不太契合某些年轻人的理念，但不管时代如何变迁，大家对单位的价值是亘古不变的核心因素。

Another key word is dedication; its synonyms may include contribution and service. When you first arrive at a new organization, as new employees, your salaries may not be high, and the work may be trivial and demanding. If you find that the organization is facing difficulties, what can you do to change the situation? The same applies to colleagues: where does our value lie? These statements may not align perfectly with the workplace thinking of your younger generation, but no matter how the times change, your value to the organization remains an enduring factor.

初入单位，新人的工资不高，工作可能是琐碎且繁重。你们的智商超出常人，必然会看到一些不一定符合理想状态的现象。如何妥善处理，是适应新单位、新环境、新同事的关键所在。而奉献，是解决这些复杂问题的最简单、最有效的钥匙。

When you first arrive, as new employees, you usually have the lowest salaries, and the work may be the most trivial and demanding. You are all exceptionally intelligent people, and you will certainly notice realities that may not fit your ideal expectations. How to handle them becomes the key for a newcomer adapting to a new organization, a new environment, and new colleagues. Dedication is the simplest and most effective key to resolving these complex situations.

基于我三十余年的工作经验，发现奉献是融入单位、获得同事和领导认可的最简单、最有效法宝。融入集体、被同事认可是我们塑造和改善单位的前提。所以，不要问“单位能给我什么”，而应思考“我能给单位贡献什么”。

Based on more than thirty years of work experience, I have concluded that dedication is the simplest and most effective way to integrate into an organization and earn recognition from colleagues and leaders. Being accepted by the organization and your colleagues is the prerequisite for you to bring about positive changes to it. Do not ask what the organization can give you; ask what you can contribute to the organization.

第三个关键词是“学习”。校长在毕业典礼上反复强调“面对时代的不确定性，要终身学习”。不确定性是时代特征，我们要通过终身学习来全面应对。

Third, I would like to emphasize the importance of learning once again. As mentioned earlier, our President Zhao repeatedly stressed during the graduation ceremony that we must face the uncertainties of our times and commit to lifelong learning. Because this is a defining feature of our era, we must therefore engage in lifelong learning.

大家终于迎来毕业的欢庆时刻，为什么要在此时强调继续学习的重要性？无论喜欢与否，我们都生活在一个知识大爆炸的时代。人工智能快速发展超出了我们的预料，知识不再稀缺，更新速度与日俱增。单一学科的知识结构，越来越无法胜任时代需求，多学科知识交叉融合将成为文科、理工科复合型拔尖创新人才培养的重要方向。

Now that you are graduating and celebrating this moment, why must we still continue to learn? Whether we like it or not, we live in an age of knowledge explosion. The rapid development of artificial intelligence has exceeded our expectations. Knowledge is no longer scarce and is being updated faster and faster. A single-disciplinary knowledge structure can no longer keep pace with the needs of the times, and the integration of knowledge across disciplines will become an important direction in the cultivation of talent in the humanities, as well as in science and engineering.

学院“国际发展”专业的课程设置，是典型的多学科交叉融合，我们仍将不断探索、循序创新。我对同学们充满信心，就在于相信大家能把握时代对知识更新、知识学习的趋势。

The curriculum of the International Development programme is a typical example of interdisciplinary integration, and we will continue to explore and innovate step by step. My confidence in our students comes from my belief that you can grasp the trends of knowledge renewal and learning in this era.

希望大家充分利用人工智能，敢于学习、善于学习多学科、多领域的知识。随着视野不断扩大，你们对事物的认知会不断变化、解决问题的效率将越来越高、方法会更新。

I hope you will make full use of the convenience of AI as a tool and have the courage and ability to acquire knowledge across multiple disciplines and fields. You will find that as your vision continues to expand, your understanding of things will keep changing, and your methods for solving problems will become more original and more effective.

同学们在快速成长，学院也在不断发展。过去几年，我们的人才培养从无到有、从弱到强，在于把握住了新时代人才培养的新规律，才能在当前巨变的大环境中快速壮大。一个人的成长，一个单位的发展，关键在于能否把握住时代跳动的脉搏。

Our students are growing rapidly, and the school is also constantly developing. In recent years, our talent development programme has grown from nothing to something, and from weakness to strength, precisely because we have grasped the new patterns of talent cultivation in the new era. This has enabled us to grow rapidly in the current environment of profound change. The key to a person’s growth and an organization’s development lies in whether they can grasp the pulse of the times.

第四个关键词是“善良与爱心”。在同学们入校与平时工作会议上，我始终强调“爱是教育的灵魂”。在此毕业之际，我再次强调这项理念。我们学了很多生存的本领，处事的方法，但在此喧嚣的时代，灵魂何以平静，何以闪耀？初心是什么，何以保持？

The fourth key word is kindness and love. When you first entered university and in regular work meetings, I always emphasized that love is the soul of education. As you graduate, I would like to emphasize this idea once again. We have learned many skills for survival and many ways of handling matters. But in this noisy era, how can the soul remain calm and shine? What is our original aspiration, and how can we preserve it?

我们因爱降临人世间，因父母、家人、老师、朋友的爱滋养，逐步从婴儿成长为大人。人类文明因此而世代相传。我常常在想，人类文明史是一部爱的传承史。爱的神奇之处，在于它不仅以血缘关系为载体而传承，而且没有血缘关系的夫妻、朋友、师生、同事甚至陌生人之间也可以承载和相守。

We came into this world because of love. Nourished by the love of parents, family, teachers, and friends, we grew from infants into adults. In the civilized history of humanity, this is how life has been passed down from generation to generation. I often think that human civilization is also a history of love. The wonder of love is that it is not carried and passed on only through blood relationships. Spouses without blood ties, friends, teachers and students, colleagues, and even strangers can all carry and pass it on.

我出生在一个物质极端匮乏的年代，看惯了人情冷漠。大约在三四岁时，曾有一个老邻居送给我一个白面馒头。这个记忆片段历经五十多年，仍在我脑海里清晰浮现。无数帮助过我的人，都难以忘记。这些人大多在我考上大学或工作之前便已去世，我无法用爱回报他们。为此，我把他们的善良和爱尽全力传递至我能及的人和事物。我没有因为施予而变得贫穷，反而日益强大，收获到越来越多的珍贵友谊。

I was born in a time of extreme material scarcity and had seen much indifference in human relations. When I was about three or four years old, an elderly neighbor once gave me a white-flour steamed bun. More than fifty years later, this memory remains vivid in my mind. I cannot forget the countless people who once helped me. Most of them had already passed away before I entered university or began working, and I can no longer repay them with love. For this reason, I have tried my best to pass on their kindness and love to the people and things within my reach. I did not become poorer because I gave. On the contrary, I became stronger and formed more and more precious friendships.

昨天，学院举办了非洲英语国家外交精英研修班的欢送午宴。在此期间，正巧有一位成员过生日，我们为她做了一碗长寿面，而她与大家共同分享。最后，她的碗里已不剩什么面条，但我看到了她满脸的欢乐和幸福。在场的所有人，都分享到她的快乐和幸福。善良和爱心是一个公共产品，它不会因分享而减少，反而会通过正向外溢而成倍增加。

Yesterday, the School held a farewell luncheon for the Seminar for Diplomatic Elites from English-Speaking African Countries. During the luncheon, one participant happened to have her birthday, so we prepared a bowl of longevity noodles for her, and she shared it with everyone. In the end, there were hardly any noodles left in her bowl, but I could see joy and happiness all over her face. Everyone present shared in her joy and happiness. Kindness and love are public goods: they do not diminish when shared; on the contrary, they multiply through positive spillovers.

在这个激烈变化的时代，虽然知识和物资不再稀缺，但善良和爱心却依然供给不足。我乘坐地铁时总能看到一些年轻人对孕妇、老人视而不见。我想，若是某一个在公共场合如此冷漠的年轻人来学院求职，我不会接受他。前几天我和同学聊天，谈到一个师兄因在车站帮助陌生人临时照看行李而互留联系方式，后来该陌生人成了他的雇主。

Unfortunately, in this era of rapid change, although knowledge and material goods are no longer scarce, kindness and compassion remain in short supply. Every time I ride the subway, I see young people who turn a blind eye to pregnant women and the elderly, refusing to give up their seats. I think that if by chance one of those young people were to apply for a job at our college, I would not hire him. A few days ago, I was chatting with some students, and they mentioned a senior student who once helped a stranger watch his luggage temporarily at a train station. They exchanged contact information, and later that stranger became his employer.

这些故事看似偶然，实则必然。如果以善良和爱心滋养心灵、事业、世界，我们的躯体和言行便会自带光芒。一个对家人、朋友、同事、民族、世界充满爱的人，运气不会差。

These may seem like coincidences, but they are, in fact, inevitable. If we nourish our hearts, our careers, and the world with kindness and love, our bodies, words, and actions will naturally carry light. A person full of love for family, friends, colleagues, the nation, and the world will not have bad luck.
